Our Journey
Our journey began in the year 2000, at a time when Afghanistan was in crisis, music was banned, and our artists' voices were silenced. The world had almost forgotten Afghan culture, and it was nearly impossible to hear Afghan songs anywhere. Out of a deep sense of loss and responsibility, we began searching, collecting, and saving Afghan music wherever we could find it—old tapes, CDs, rare recordings shared by friends abroad, and hidden treasures from personal collections. Every track we found felt like recovering a piece of our identity.
In the early days, we shared these collections on peer-to-peer platforms, often spending countless hours to track down missing songs, verify artists, and preserve quality. As technology advanced, so did our efforts. By 2003 we launched our first web page, and in 2005 we finally registered our own .com domain. Two years later, in 2007, Afghan123.com was born—a simple, memorable name that symbolized a new home for Afghan music online.
Our Mission
Since then, thanks to the dedication of contributors, artists, and record labels, Afghan123.com has grown into the largest Afghan music archive on the internet. Behind every song in our library is a story of hard work—late nights digitizing cassettes, negotiating permissions, and connecting with people around the world to piece together a culture once at risk of being lost.
Maintaining this platform takes courage, time, and resources, but our mission keeps us moving forward: to preserve and share Afghanistan's music and cultural heritage, especially at a time when restrictions on music are returning once again.
